What is coercive control?

Coercive control is no singular act of violence, but an accumulative and insidious tactic of control often making it difficult to define.

Coercive Control can look like:

• Isolating or limiting contact with friends and family
• Limiting or controlling access to finances
• Limiting your autonomy
• Constant put-downs and criticism
• Gaslighting
• Threats and intimidation
• Limiting what type of clothes you can wear
• Humiliation
• Commitment to reducing your feelings of worth
• Monitoring your social media
• Making you feel unsafe

Everyones experiences differ, but there will almost always be similarities. These similarities, and patterns that appear are important to understand.
